A total grant award of $13,300 was distributed to Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana to implement a “Life After High School-Expectations & Benefits” program at all five Boys & Girls Club sites in Acadiana. The purpose of this initiative is to expose teens to the options and resources available to them after graduating from high school. This goal will be accomplished through a variety of field trips and “in-house” demonstrations and speaking engagements. Through this experience it is our goal that our teen participants realize the options available to them and the benefits of obtaining a high school diploma.

Participants will also learn the importance of giving back to their communities via a group service project with the elderly. Our project consist of two parts which will comprise teens, Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana staff and volunteers, parents/guardians of the participants, the Council on Aging staff and the individuals that we will partner with in relation to the proposed field trip experiences and guest speaker engagement. Keystoners will sponsor all of these events and will each recruit one teen friend and a family member to assist with the planning and marketing of the trips, scheduling guest speakers and implementing the service project.

More information on this initiative can be gained by calling Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana’s Business Offices at (337) 268-9555.
